I love it everytime I get an email from Guerilla Zoo, Ive said it once and ill say it again, Guerilla Zoo, without a doubt put on THE BEST and most consistently thought provoking art exhibitions in the UK.
Cut a long story short, they have an exhibition on NOW, as in right now, it ends on Sunday -12 June, if you miss it you will be sorry and also hardpressed to find such a good quality art hit for quite sometime.
Guerilla zoo are masters of finding and bringing together the best of the (modern underground) art world.
This exhibition, hosted on 3 floors of a beautifully eerie and crumbling ex-abbatoir building space in Farringdon.
James Elphick and his team presents us with over 50 surreal, controversial and provocative modern artists from around the world.
The opening was filled to the brim with Londons cream of the emerging art crop.
To save this article being 3 pages long, ill present you with a quick slice of some of the most impressive works, it was lush.

as Domino's latest signing, they have just a handful of songs. The new album was released on the 17th May. Went to the ROTKAPPCHEN album launch at the Macbeth a week ago.
Tre good!!!!!!!
Totally beaty, dancey sounds and glitchy noise, cool vocals and super hand drawn awesome visuals, COMBINED with live drums, played by the talented and the gorgeously ridiculously curly haired, Annie O-Some. (also part of The Birds Of Paradise)
Rotkappchen - (little red hood in german), this 2 piece (Ian and Annie) totally got the dancefloor going, Rotkappchen is well destined for great things especiallly live! The album is electro, well recorded and totally party inducing, im well up for that !!!!!!
They came a long way through the darkest woods in order to deliver a basket of musical and visual goodies to your (big) ears.......

SQUAT NOW WHILE STOCKS LAST

Squatting has been in the (right wing conservative) press alot recently. Obvioulsy it has not been touted as an' outside the box' response to the housing crisis, homelessness or inflation.

Nor has it, of course been in the (right wing or left wing- for that matter) press in reference to the fact that 1 in six people in the world are squatters.

Squatting has been in the papers, because a load of naive, foreign tourists, only here to sample london's famed counter cultural underbelly, have ended up using some blokes house as a bloody hotel and then have given interviews to the press about it.

Hoorah, for these idiots, they ticked all the reactionary boxes, immigrants from Eastern Europe, wearing the ragged uniform of dirty scrouging hippies, posing, shoeless and long haired for the camera and telling Sun journalists how easy it is to live in Britain, and how they are getting legal aid to fight for squatters rights.

Whilst the hard working, taxpaying, great British bloke who has just got on the property ladder, is living in his car,having been bankrupted by stamp duty and court costs, the stress has caused his wife to leave him and worst of of all the immigrant scrounging hippy heodonist sqautters broke into his house whilst he was out, hanging up the union jack bunting for the royal wedding celebratory street party.

This is of course not all strictly true, but what in print ever is. There have been a barrage of other ludicrous stories recently. No mention has of course been made that the majority of sqatters in london (an estimated 10,000?) are not ALL complete twats.(although, of course some are).

So, informed only by blind predudice and a story about a couple of idiots, (who probably WILL just FUCK OFF BACK TO WHERE THEY CAME FROM , when the utopian dream of living off stale donuts and ketamine in an unheated house has worn off) .

Of course then 'Outraged' of 'Little Bigotstown' will wriite a strongly worded letter of complaint, to whoever and wherever it may concern.

And then of course Kennith Clarke can make his move (banning squatting was in the pre election Tory manifesto, its not paranoia when they are actually after you) and respond by stating that in light of these blatant injustices to the great white British taxpayer the days of "Squatters rights" are over.

And then everyone will mumble 'god save the queen' into their ovaltine and go to bed, still bitter, and not have sex and wake up in the morning still grumpy...

But enough of that bullshit. But what are squatters rights...

Squatting laws were invented as a fairness clause during the enclousures act, in the 13th century. This process was where land, which was previously held IN COMMON, was ENCLOSED and given to private landlords.

13th Century Law makers realised that this was, a bit unfair to most people, and introduced a squatting clause which said that if there was basically some bit of gnat ridden bog somewhere that no rich people could be bothered with, then it was fair game to use it.Thus our desperately outdated and unfair system of political organisation in this country was gestated.

Back to the present day. Some cunt in the evening standard (Quelle surprise!) whose name i cant be bothered to google, (and who has a series on channel four, about democracy!!)(yes, those are two exclaimation marks),(and three consecutive sets of brackets, oh the gramatical anarchy!!!).

Some cunt in the evening standard, basically made the same point. He said that our fabulous system of private ownership is why we have our "daz white", democratic process,(and to futher paraphrase his article) whilst the stupid arabs with their brown skin and their revolutionary way will never be as 'gosh darn fantastic us Brits.'

This looks different from a different ideological precipice of course.

We could also view from the point of view that,

individuals from Arabic nations are more unified as people as a result of not being divided up physically.

This of course will not be your perspective if you are a sychophantic capitalist sympathiser who would prostitute your intellect (and probably your childrens backsides) to reinforce the crumbling edifice of western democracy, probably for a packet of pringles and a blow job from the editor of the Evening Standard).

This sort of nonsense is the sort of factually incontinent drivel that you will be paid to smear all over the pages of the evening standard. It will, in turn, to be lapped up by most people because it justifies their shitty lives, doing shitty jobs earning shitty money, to pay for their shitty flats, which they could just all be squatting if they they had enough time out to think about it.

Which is possibly why Tory politicians (who have had quite a bit of time to do exactly that) have finally decided, er maybe now is the time to make squatting illegal.

Breaking news: The time has come again for the TAA exhibition in 2011. The last one i went to was spectacular and you couldn't really get more authentic underground artists crammed into in one place.
The idea is to take over a disused building for a few days, and use it to exhibit art, art in any form,
and i quote 'to build a free creative, interactive, alternative,
open , social and cultural space'

Yep, I can relate.

Ruby Blues is an acclaimed performer and a massive creative force (when i say force i mean tornado) on the London music and art scene, best known for her work as director of the incredible and inspiring TRASH CITY project.

Annick Wolfers is a London based film-maker and photographer, whose most recent work involved a collaboration with Pete Doherty for Italian Vogue. Get in!

The video showcases the designs of Rachel Friere, (rising dark star of the UK fashion scene and self-confessed 'cheerleader for the Apocalypse')

and also that of costumier Lyall Hakaraia (the legendary 'Mayoress of Dalston' and proprietor of hip scenester nightspot Vogue Fabrics)

The video also features the stop motion facial tattoo design by another incredibly talented hot creative designer Natasha Lawes.

I am super stoked that all these creative forces have unleashed their inertia upon us.

NEW KINETIC ARTISTS (The future starts here)

We love The Kinetic Museum and this weekend was the always incredible Kinetic Art Fair, celebrating new works from over 40 Kinetic Artists, one of our favourites was Alex Posadas new work entitled 'The Particle'
The work he is doing is incredible, from super suits for Chicks on Speed to all kinds of unimaginable interactive artworks, designs, performances and installations!
'The Particle' is based on chaos, the elements, atomic particles and the creation of new molecules through evolution. The Particle explores these processes of creation.

We also loved these simple but super effective neon tube installations from Dianne Harris.

Named 'Eternally Yours'

As well as this gorgeous, haunting Paper, mirror and LED light installation from Korean artist Jun Ga Young, entitled 'Whistling Sea'

and Skeletal Robotic experiments from Christiaan Zwanikken,

HACKTIVISM-ANONYMOUS

Anonymous has become more and more notorious in the last three years. Whilst linked to a wide range of protests against Scientology, support for WikiLeaks and freedom of information in general, there have also been hugely misleading reports in the media. Anonymous is not a centralised organisation that can be stamped out from a specific location, there is not even a spokesperson or an enigmatic figure inspiring people into action. There are multiple autonomous groups operating globally and locally who have chosen to use the Internet to communicate and co-ordinate protests and forums always using disposable identities. Using independent cells with broadly common belief in true freedoms, rather than illusory ones under the umbrella of Anonymous people campaign against any suppression of freedom of speech, freedom of expression and freedom of information.

Their tactics range from street marches, placard campaigns, to public sloganeering using post-it notes stuck on walls rather than graffiti, a kind of protesting from the office icebreaker school of thought. They are also hacktivists involved with Operation Payback taking down the websites of organisations opposed to Internet piracy using distributed denial-of-service attacks (DDoS) which flood email or web servers with information to the point of collapse. An ongoing infowar so-called Operation Avenge Assange centres on the controversial publishing of confidential United States information and leaked emails by Julian Assange of WikiLeaks, a media group specialising in top-secret news. When corporations such as Paypal and Visa chose to stop working with WikiLeaks the online systems were hacked by an Anonymous group and taken down. DDos is an illegal activity in some countries from which many Anonymous-ers have been careful to distance themselves. There are things they do that you might totally disagree with whilst other campaigns and tactics that you passionately believe in.

On one of the websites using the name Anonymous a video streams footage from various Scientology demonstrations whilst overlaid text points out that ‘we are anonymous and so are you.’ This is why the tactics and methods employed are so convincing; we could all choose to be Anonymous, at any time, for any reason. One thing the activists have in common is the use of online monikers and street disguises. Covering up the face can be both alarming and alluring; it’s really difficult to feel neutral about it. People can be frightened of someone wearing a balaclava and in awe of someone covering their face for religious reasons, or the reverse might be the case and it all depends on your own thoughts and feelings. For those Anonymous individuals problematising their identities whilst courting publicity using musketeer masks and devilishly flowing black coats is more than an attempt to avoid the law. It is a way of eschewing the expose-yourself facebook mode of living or the thought that Big Brother is just getting used to the new tools available and to which people give away so much so easily. There does seem to be a twist of a paradox though, for all those secrets Anonymous want to expose, the hidden truth of Scientology and the freedom to know all information, for whatever reason they choose to do it all whilst concealing who they are.

Merry branded-properly-identity-guidelined Christmas, Basil!

Actually, that's kind of cynical sounding; misleading and cruel... don't get me wrong, I totally love Christmas, in fact I'm sitting struggling to digest a lot of cheese and cider right now. (all organic and free range and all that too, Im a really good person.) I love tinsel. I love baubles. I even don't have much of an issue with sticking an angel on top of a tree, even though I'm an atheist. Anyhow. Forgive the shortness and shoddiness of this - It IS Christmas Eve and I've had a few already.

The history of Santa/Sinterklauss/Kris Kringle/Santa/ Basil of Caeserea is well documented and well, known, so I wont go into it too much, save to direct you towards every lazy persons favourite answer to actually learning things Wikipedia. Also, googling St Nicholas brings up images almost solely of red dressed old dudes, sporting the hot red look way earlier than Coke started using him in their commercials in the 30s. (I also just cannot get the image of Lady Whiteadder from Blackadder 3rd out my head when I see them but that's just me i think) ANYHOW it's pretty much pointless to argue that they've hijacked what everyone round the world thinks Santa looks like for that last 70 odd years.

The iconic Coke Santa was drawn by a Michigan born illustrator Haddon Sundblom in 1931. Using Clement Clark Moore's famous 'Twas the Night Before Christmas' poem as inspiration he went with the contemporary idea of the time - made popular incidentally by Thomas Nash, a 19th century political cartoonist - that he was a clinically obese gouty old man in a red coat.. previously it have been brown, tan, furs... he was skinny, he was a weird looking goblin... None of these things sell tasty beverages though. So popular however was Haddon's work that people started to believe he'd created Santa from scratch. That's some pretty impressive brand power. Was it coincidence that Coke's colours are red? They say it was on their website ( 'Cokelore? COKELORE?! jesus) Id have liked to have been in the ad agency meeting (I am absolutely convinced it would look like a scene from Mad Men with a lot of smoking and awesome women in shit hot dresses) when they premiered the paintings though - i doubt if he's been dressed in mauve they'd have gone for it.

More importantly though, Sundblom went on to do some cracking pin up work. Santa really should have looked like this.

Coke basically had the image of Santa sewn up from then on - and we all lived happily merrily after, waiting with baited breath for that FUCKING AWFUL 'Holiday's are comin'!' advert that crops up every October heralding the dawning of the birth of a new king... sorry, more epic sales of Coke round the world. (Apart from Sweden where its outsold by Julmust.)

And that's that yep? Well, I've just been introduced to this piece of genius from Quiet Room, which,yeah, ok not the kind of thing you'd normally find us linking to... but bear with me...

To anyone that's ever worked in the world of media and 'creatives' where nothing whatsoever matches the sheer impressiveness of the vague, bullshit utterly ridiculous language used - then this will be something of Christmas treat. Scarily, and sadly I've had illustration briefs that really do sound like this.

We absolutely love this music video by French band LES RITA MITSOUKO
Les Rita Mitsouko was a French pop rock group formed by guitarist Fred Chichin and singer Catherine Ringer.
Rita Mitsouko began performing in the early 1980s in alternative spaces such as the Pali-Kao, a squatted factory building in Belleville, Paris. They went on to become one of the most successful musical acts of the 1980s.
The hit song "Marcia Baila" was written as a tribute to Marcia Moretto, the Argentine dancer, choreographer and Catherine's close friend, after her death in 1981 at the age of 32.
Interestingly, Ringer also performed in pornographic movies such as La Fessée and Body Love.

We love the guys at the Kinetica Museum, and all the great, ground breaking work they do for Kinetic Art - Based in London, they have a new exhibition which you really should check out............its on for a month-

The exhibition takes place in Reuben Powell’s temporarily reclaimed 13000sq ft warehouse and is really, really good.

Ivan creates complex and interactive Kinetic sculptures, which spiral towards a shifting vanishing point. He has an obsessive interest in the search for patterns in motion, and the ability to express mathematical paradigms in visual terms.
Deep stuff, who doesn't love a visual mathematical paradigm?
You really have to see them to marvel at the level of skill - with which they are conceptualised and constructed.
A continuous visual snapshot of a piece of code. Dramatic and sublime.

and REUBEN POWELL

I have personally been a long term fan of Reuben's intricate, mathematical and skilled artworks.
For this exhibition he has created a new body of reconstructivist images on tin-plate steel and large graphite drawings on paper.
He is concerned with the relationship between the individual and the environment.
His works are both a scientific experiment and a profound comment on a vanishing landscape.Reuben is artist in residence at the Elephant and Castle where he has been working and exhibiting from his studio/gallery over the past year recording the regeneration of the area, of this maligned part of London with a fresh and compelling perspective. The regeneration of the Elephant and Castle is the largest scheme of its kind in Europe and represents a significant change in the urban landscape of London.
Reuben also provides eye opening workshops with local school children from his warehouse studio.

The juxtaposition of the two artists' work and the gritty decaying English space, make it a ravishing and mind-bending MUST SEE.

GARETH PUGH S/S-11 GENIUS

Okay, so not exactly a new designer anymore, as the avant-guarde Gareth Pugh is fast becoming a household name, but his new video for his Spring/Summer collection 2011, directed by Ruth Hogben (fashions new 'it girl' film-maker) and starring Kristen Mcmenamy is too awesome for words.
The film, as well as the collection is futuristic, edgy, intelligent, optical, dramatic, conceptual and inspired.
It is everything a fashion video, and a collection should be, it picks up where so many fashion videos (and collections) tend to fall short.
Gareth (and his team) have done it again!
Bring on S/S11, i really hope this is what its going to be about...

AWESOME ART EXHIBITION THIS WEEKEND - JAMES LAVELLE

Who knew, JAMES LAVELLE (the other half and producer) of British trip-hop electronic outfit UNKLE is now curating a major art exhibition inspired by his music.
James has collaborated with just about everyone worth their musical salt (incl Thom Yorke, Ian Brown, Jarvis Cocker to name a few), so it makes sense that he is moving into the art world, and i cant wait to see it.
The exhibition will feature artists from the fields of music, art, sound art, fashion, film and design of whom have all created NEW artwork for this exhibition.

It will also highlight UNKLE'S new musical collaboration with ... hyperventilate- Nick Cave, which will be played at the gallery, along with a new short film by (gulp) Jonathan Glazer (need i remind you that he is the director of Radiohead's STREET SPIRIT - only one of the best music videos EVER

NEW TALENT -MC GAFF E

I had been hearing alot about this MC GAFF E from numerous friends for a while now and have watched her random and rather insane videos on Youtube but, never actually had the pleasure of seeing her perform live.

An original, masterful, colourful and un-imitatable force,
I am now a Gaffy convert, I too worship at the psychedelic altar of Gaffy Gaffiero.
Her church is a deranged dream-like world of sequins, fluoro, horses, cocks and face-paint, oh yes and music.
I had the pleasure of seeing one of her very intimate shows last weekend at the Twisted Sisters night in Deptford (deep, dark South London)
Her show is madder than a bag of spiders, with multiple moments of collective audience eye squinting, eyebrow raising and awkward looking around the room-ness, with shared thoughts of 'what the fuck, seriously, what, where am i again'? Her high-energy performances leave you breathless and sweaty - just by watching them.

Watching her perform is like being transported to some freakishly queer and bizarre world of hallucinogenic animals, vertical pelvic thrusts and a never-ending magic trunk of mad outfits combined with even madder songs.More performance artist than merely musician, she also collaborates with a large number of seriously talented artists from around the globe.

All i can say is you really must catch one of her shows, there is actually no way to describe it in literary terms.
(i have been trying all afternoon)
Its the ultimate surrealist experience (you thought you were edgy and arty? think again) with simple-slash- genius songs and lyrics (set to a backing track) that range from SOD OFF CALAMARI ('i dont want your tentacles, i just want your chemicals') which is now very firmly stuck in my head, to TRANNY HEAVEN, FRANK GOES BANG, and one of my favourites HOT MESS - live video below (with the amazing 'my bad sister'.)

She is still particularly underground but is getting popular exceptionally quickly, I suggest you see her while her shows are still reasonably intimate.
She is freshly back from Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and is putting on a tent at Bestival called Tranny Tank along side Jonny Woo, John Sizzle and many others.

She is also currently working on her own original 'comedy freak show' for theatre, to be performed later in the year ....
CANT SODDING WELL WAIT.

My Polish 3-d artist friend - Michal Gadek is staying with me at the moment whilst he is looking for a job in London, he has just come back from a massive European roadtrip, he is also a shit-hot photographer, only shooting in film, mostly on an old analogue Pentax Super A. Thats wha im talking about!

He is also really well travelled and rather interesting, last night we had a very in depth conversation about aliens, energy transference, the end of the world incl hard (NASA) facts about what is really going to happen to the earth in 2012, shits going down yo!
(He also advises aliens are unaturally tall and dress rather ridiculously, just in case you were wondering)
Then this morning we munched on toast with strawberry jam to another intense conversation about the very clandestine Russian mafia /politics and prostitution.
He warns, in life not to indulge yourself or others in your own misery, as it only encourages more bad energy and more misery.
Wise words.

Anyway here are some pictures from his road trip, they covered 9000kms in 5 weeks and went through Germany, Italy, France, Slovenia, Craotia, Monte Negro, Albania, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania (the home of gypsies and Dracula), Hungary, Slovakia and finally Poland.
He said some of the films were lying in the back window of the car, so some of the colours were distorted.

On friday we had the pleasure of spending the afternoon in studio with the talented, humble and gorgeous robotic scrap artist GILES WALKER. Giles is part of the Mutoid Waste Crew, but has been making the most incredible scrap and robotic sculptures for over 20 years. WE LOVE HIS WORK!
All of his clever robotic pieces highlight really strong contemporary social issues as well, unfortunately i dont want to give it all away so you will have to wait for ISSUE 1 for more about this incredible and inspiring artist.

I have always been a massive fan of Dutch born designer Iris Van Herpen,
but PHWOOOOAR these shoes are AAAMAZINNG!
The shoes are from her latest collection entitled “Synesthesia” and inspired by the sensations felt in one part of the body when stimulus is applied to another part, the collection featured designs that altered the inner and outer dimensions of the body’s contours, developing new volumes, shapes and silhouettes, covering and uncovering at the same time the body in architecturally constructed three-dimensional armours that create optical illusions through intricate leather strips highlighted by metallic elements.

The matching shoes that accompanied the collection are a result of a collaboration between Iris and architectural footwear brand United Nude.
These black and ivory ankle boots, will soon be available in selected shops. The boots are 100% handmade and will be released in a limited edition: there will be only 240 available worldwide, 168 in black and 72 in ivory.

A new condom has been designed to prevent rape. RAPE IS A MASSIVE EVERYDAY REALITY FOR MOST WOMAN LIVING IN AFRICA.
South African Dr. Sonnet Ehlers has just finished inventing Rape-aXe.
Basically, the woman inserts the latex condom like a tampon.
Jagged rows of teeth-like hooks line its inside and attach on a man's penis during penetration,
Once it lodges, only a doctor can remove it -- a procedure Ehlers hopes will be done with authorities on standby to make an arrest.
"It hurts, he cannot pee and walk when it's on," she said. "If he tries to remove it, it will clasp even tighter... however, it doesn't break the skin, and there's no danger of fluid exposure."

Ehlers said she sold her house and car to launch the project, and she planned to distribute 30,000 free devices under supervision during the World Cup period.
South Africa has one of the highest rape rates in the world, according to Human Rights Watch.
A 2009 report by the nation's Medical Research Council found that 28 percent of men surveyed had raped a woman or girl, with one in 20 saying they had raped in the past year.

In most African countries, rape convictions are not common. Affected women don't get immediate access to medical care, and DNA tests to provide evidence are unaffordable.
Most victims then contract HIV and fall pregnant, mostly forced to carry the child to term.
"Women and girls who experience these violations are denied justice, factors that contribute to the normalization of rape and violence in South African society," Human Rights Watch says.
Women take drastic measures to prevent rape in South Africa, Ehlers said, with some wearing extra tight biker shorts and others inserting razor blades wrapped in sponges in their private parts.

Strangely enough Dr Ehlers has received an astonishing amount of criticism for this product, people saying it will entice anger from the attacker and that it is medieval???? Er, missing the point guys.........
Im just so thankful that something can be done to prevent even one single rape and make these vulnerable woman feel even slightly safer.
I think its awesome.
Hopefully the government will get involved (cough cough) and distribute them for free,
this development is much more important and exciting than anything else ive heard in a long long time.

NEU HQ HITS GLASTONBURY

Neu Hq teamed up with Rubbish Fairy, Mutoid Waste and the House of Doll to hit Glastonbury HARD.
Amongst other things we scouted some incredibly talented new (and old) artists, hung out with some of the sickest graffers this side of the antlantic and also hooked up with Thom Yorke for a private dj set on Joe Rush's crashed plane at the Unfairground.

So much talent, so little time, here are some pictures of the beautiful things we found......

The Beautiful Doom of SCAB

Excellent breaking news! With so many amazing artists out there, its tough to choose the ones you want to work with but this was easy,
I can finally confirm a collaboration between Neu HQ and the incredibly talented underground artist SCAB. GET IN!!! (it only took a large sum of money and some very dodgy deals involving embalmed human body parts- dont ask)
Those of you in the know, will have definately seen or heard of his work, he, as does his reputation, lurks in the darkest corners of the darkest, miserable and most infected underground places.
A noteworthy 'scarred' face on the emerging art scene, Scab is a london based aerosol artist, illustrator, graphic designer and animator.
He is one of those people who is actually annoying he is so effortlessly talented, as he casually dips in and out of all styles of graphic art and media (from painted murals, album artwork, tattoo's, cars, t-shirts, posters, digital, illustration, animation and just downright jaw dropping graff)

With incredible attention to detail and subject matter ranging from vastly gory to cutesy.
He is currently in the process of publishing his first illustrated story book and is moving on to create animations for music videos, CANT FUCKING WAIT!!

If anything could be worse than his seriously overflowing cup of talent it might be the fact that he is so terribly humble about it all...........

Ok so, in SHENZHEN, China - Apple manufacturer Foxconn, (seriously) yesterday - Wednesday urged workers to sign contracts promising not to kill themselves to stem a spate of suicides — hours before the 11th worker this year fell to his death.(thats 11 people in 5 months)
Foxconn Technology Group is a Taiwanese multinational company that is hands down the largest manufacturer of electronics, computers and computer components in the world.
They are the main producers of items such as the Mac mini, iPod, iPad, iPhone, Dell Computers, HP motherboards, Wii, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 just to name a few.
Just so we in our cuntish 1st world bliss can be like oh my god have you checked out hipstamatic or Kekkaishi?The apparent suicides have raised questions about the conditions for millions of factory workers in China, especially at Foxconn's southern Chinese plant, where activists say long hours, low pay and high pressure are the norm.
On a more serious note, their name is FOXCONN!!!!! (seriously)

Dom - Living in America, is the 2010 SUMMER ANTHEM, it has arrived and seems to be all ramshackle, synth-drone euphoria!

Americas latest offering......It seems to be pieced together in a barn (bedroom) somewhere (Worcester- Massachusetts to be exact), using rudimentary tools and exploiting deceptively simple hooks, but there is something more cunning about this gem, packed to the brim with sardonic irony and infectious dont-give-a-fuckness....

I feel the makings of a classic here....and in the context of our '3 year decades' and even faster shrinking attention spans, thats quite a far out STATEMENT!

The series is in response to American Apparel claiming to use everday women as models, the campaigns are highly sexualised and the woman are not 'everyday'.
Most women with disabilites feature to the public as asexual or undesirable, the invisibility of women with disabilities in many ways denies them the right to sexuality, particularly within a public context.

Too often, the pervasive influence of imagery in mass media goes unexamined, consumed unquestioningly by the public. However, this imagery has real, oppressive effects on people who are continuously ‘othered’ by society (and normal women as well)

SO ...about this oil slick......worst oil slick in the history of mankind, 20 000 gallons of oil spilling directly into the sea everyday, and they still,
in all their scientific might havent been able to do a single thing to stop it, and there is almost nothing in the news. WOW, thanks BP for completely fucking up our fragile planet.

The rig exploded on april 20, so its been over a month (35 days today) of constant spilling, they estimate up to 6 million gallons already - straight into the ocean. nice.

Kuksi’s art speaks of a timelessness–potentiality and motion attempting to reach on forever, and yet pessimistically delayed; forced into the stillness of death and eternal sleep. He treats morbidity with a sympathetic touch and symbolizes the paradox of the death of the individual by objective personification of death.
There is a fear of this consciousness because it drops in upon us without mercy, and yet there is a need to appeal to it in order to provide a sense of security, however deluded that sense may be.

Kuksi’s art warns us that this appeal is irrelevant, and that we should be slow to create a need for it. His themes also teach us that although death may pursue us arbitrarily, we should never neglect to mourn the tremendous loss of individual potential.

Born March 2, 1973, in Springfield Missouri and growing up in neighboring Kansas, Kris spent his youth in rural seclusion and isolation along with a blue-collar, working mother, two much-older brothers and an absent father. Open country, sparse trees, and alcoholic stepfather, perhaps paved the way for an individual saturated in imagination and introversion. His fascination with the unusual lent to his macabre art later in life. The grotesque to him, as it seemed, was beautiful. Reaching adulthood his art blossomed and created a breakthrough of personal freedom from the negative environment experienced during his youth. He soon discovered his distaste for the typical American life and pop culture, feeling that he has always belonged to the ‘Old World’. Yet, Kris’ work is about a new wilderness, refined and elevated, visualized as a cultivation emerging from the corrupt and demoralized fall of modern-day society. A place were new beginnings, new wars, new philosophies, and new endings exist.

In personal reflection, he feels that in the world today much of mankind is oftentimes frivolous and fragile, being driven primarily by greed and materialism. He hopes that his art exposes the fallacies of Man, unveiling a new level of awareness to the viewer.
